Fantastic! I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but now having gone through the first 20 challenges I am in love with it. The book is set up exactly how it's advertised: Here is the challenge, this is what it MUST do, here are some notes, and here are the main functions that you can use to accomplish it. That's it. It does not tell you how to program it, or baby step you through it; just hints. Best way to learn. So many times we get stuck in "tutorial" grind where we have training wheels the entire time but never go outside our comfort zone to accomplish the goal. This book forces you to go out of your comfort zone to find the answer.
This book is not for beginners, but for those who have done enough tutorials or gathered enough information to finally take a test drive of GML yourselves. This book will only work though if you're willing to put in the time. Tell yourself to do X amount of challenges a day or week or month and KEEP WITH IT.
-I actually feel challenged. The author only provides the necessary functions to complete the task, nothing else.
-Challenges are kept to two pages, front and back.
-Book is seems solid, not cheap.
-Some challenges need tweaking for GML2, specifically move camera stuff.
-Not for the absolute beginner to programming or GML. Must have basic knowledge of how programming and GML interface work or you'll be completely lost.
